Austin armoured Champ 0029, 00 BE 29
0029, 00 BE 29. A good picture of an Armoured Austin Champ in military service carrying the Vickers .303 machine gun and the RPG. The tyre in the first photo is the first type fitted to the Austin Champ, the Dunlop T29A but, the tyre is the wrong way around, the 'arrows' formed by the tread pattern on directional tyres should be facing downwards.
One expert says the rear tyres should be reversed to the front tyre to give traction when reversing out of mud but, from my research, this is wrong. Fitting a directional tyre the wrong way around can lead to excessive wear. I have seen one of the front tyres on an Austin Champ fitted the wrong way around and the tread blocks had worn badly on the rear of each block whereas the tyre the right way around was unworn.
